April 29th the Flying Samaritan’s will return for a Lions Club Eye Clinic The clinic begins at 8am at the International Hospital in Los Arcos community, San Felipe, Baja Norte Mexico.

April is the time for the Lyons Club and the Flying Samaritans from California to provide the people of San Felipe a free eye examine.  If needed glasses as well.  If it is determined the patient has cataracts or other eye issues the Better Together eye project group of San Felipe along with great doctors and nurses from Ensenada, Mexico will help to make this happen.  The eye projects one for the elderly and one for the children are all private donations.  Our group is very blessed to have this help from all the donors.

A little bit of information is taken from the minutes from our February meeting.

Eye Project Report –Paul and Mary Beardslee

Minimal work was done in December and January.

Paul delivered eye drops and a couple glucometers and supplies to 3 eye patients.

In January, Paul took 6 adults to Ensenada. 4 people had laser treatments and one patient had 2 eye injections for diabetic retinopathy. The patient was able to pay for one of the two injections. Laser surgery and injections cost $810.00 US plus travel.

January 31, Paul went with 4 other vehicles, driven by Jim H, Mark L, Jerry O, and Eric H. to transport 10 children and guardians for exams by Dr. Arias to Ensenada. All the children received new prescriptions for new lenses. These glasses are being made by Dr. Sandoval in San Felipe. One of the children were seen for the first 2 time. Almost all the new glasses have been delivered. Dr. Arias gave a discount this time on his exams. He charged 450 Pesos for each exam rather than $600 Pesos that he normally charges.

The following day we plan to have Dr. Abbud come to Dr. Abasolo’s office to examine people and measure for cataract lenses. With the generous donations we have received we plan to do cataract and pterygium surgeries beginning May 19th and continuing for several days.
