Better Together Eye Program Report

This past weekend Paul and Mary attended the Lions Eye Clinic. Over 200 people we
seen at this clinic. We received over 50 names of people believed to need surgery. On Sunday, Dr Marcelo Abbud and 2 of his staff came from Ensenada and examined 62 patients at Dr Abasolo’s office. Rita Casey helped us coordinate the exams
which went very smoothly. We greatly appreciate Rita’s help on Sunday. Over the weekend, we identified 36 new cataracts and 18 pterigiums. In addition we
have 21 patients who are waiting to have their 2nd cataracts removed. In March of 2024, we hope to provide 44 cataract surgeries and 18 pterigiums surgeries. Our surgical cost for these surgeries will be $28,716. dollars. 21 of the patients who are receiving 2nd cataract surgeries will contribute 7,000 pesos toward
their surgery if they can do so. Michele Cumberland has contacted Operation Blessings to inquire about a donation
and is waiting to hear back. Jean Westburg has spoken to Rotary of San Felipe about a possible donation. I am
contacting them with details of our needs.
We will be proceeding to create a Go Fund Me request. Please pray that we will be able to provide these needed surgeries for our
community.
